QLD Severe Storm Safety Tips

QLD Severe Storm Safety Tips

PREPARED FOR QLD STORM SEASON?

Occasionally, we experience severe weather like storms that can cause not only considerable damage but also the loss of lives. They can damage the electricity network, create electrical hazards, and interrupt your power supply. The key is to be prepared, so here are some simple storm safety tips and steps you can take to minimise the risks to you, your loved ones and your property.

  1. Trim trees and branches around your house. DO NOT attempt to trim branches near power lines.
  2. Secure loose items in your yard – for example: outdoor furniture, toys, umbrellas, trampolines.
  3. Make sure you have a torch or two on hand and fresh batteries.
  4. Stay away from windows, skylights, and doors.
  5. Know the location of your fuse box or mains switch and make sure it’s covered to prevent water damage.
  6. Unplug sensitive appliances such as computers, video recorders and televisions.
